Update on the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act.
Supporting the Bill(s)
House: 232
Senate: 14
Since Amendment
1892 to the National Defense Authorization Act of 2016 did not make it in due
to the VA not providing the information that they needed to, we are back working
on S-681. We need to contact as many Senators on the Veterans Affairs Committee
as we can and request that they support the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans
Act and have a favorable discussion. If you need a list of these members please
ask. This is very important that we do this in the next few DAYS since the
Senate has scheduled a Mark Up hearing for S-681 on July 14, 2015. We also need
to try to convince more Senators to sign up to Co-Sponsor S-681 so that the
Congressional Budget Office (CBO) will provide the score for the bill that is
needed. We are hoping that once this score and if it is favorable then more
Senators will sign onto the bill BUT it helps to have as many Senators signed
on to the bill so that the CBO will do its job faster.
We still need the VA to provided the needed comments to the
Senate Veterans Affairs committee, so one way you can help is to call Secretary
Robert McDonald’s cell phone Number ((513)509-8454) leave a message asking him
to provide the needed comments to the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.
You should also send an e-mail to the Senate Veterans Affairs
Committee Chairman and request that he support the Blue Water Navy Vietnam
Veterans Act. You can contact him here: http://www.veterans.senate.gov/chairman
On July 6th John Wells of the Military-Veterans
Advocacy will be meeting with Sloane
Gibson, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs to discuss the
Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans issue. We should all wish him well with this
meeting.
On July 6th – 9th I will be flying to Washington DC
to meet up with John Wells of the Military-Veterans Advocacy and with we will
be talking to members of Congress to try to convince them to support the Blue
Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act. I look forward to this and only hope I can be
of some help. I do look forward to the experience.
Please feel free to share this and if you have any question
please feel free to message me or leave me a question in a comment.
I will provide an update after I return from Washington DC .
Thanks
Mike
